Samsung Microwave Recall

On November 5, 2009, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Samsung Electronics America Inc. announced a voluntary recall of approximately 43,000 Samsung over-the-range microwave ovens, citing a potential shock hazard. The microwave ovens have an installation bolt that could come in contact with an electrical component inside the unit, leading to shock if the device is plugged into an ungrounded outlet.

The recall affects all Samsung 1000-watt over-the-range microwave ovens with the following model and serial numbers:

• SMH9151x from serial number xxxxxxxS1xxxxxx to xxxxxxxS5xxxxxx

• SMH9151B from serial number xxxxxxOS600001 to xxxxxxOS600100 or xxxxxxTS600001 to xxxxxxTS601100

• SMH9151S from serial number xxxxxxTS600001 to xxxxxxTS601386

• SMH9151ST from serial number xxxxxxTS600001 to xxxxxxTS600330

• SMH9151STE from serial number xxxxxxTS600001 to xxxxxxTS600330

• SMH9151W from serial number xxxxxxOS600001 to xxxxxxOS600200 or xxxxxxTS600001 to xxxxxxTS602055

The recalled microwaves were sold in retail stores nationwide from January 2009 through July 2009. Consumers are advised to immediately unplug the appliance and contact Samsung at 888-402-6974 to schedule a free repair.
