Conair Hair Dryer Recall

On May 7, 2010, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Conair Corp. announced a safety recall of approximately 291,000 Conair compact hair dryers, after receiving 16 reports of the fans inside the hair dryers breaking and causing the plastic shell of the dryer to shatter. One person had to seek medical attention for a hand laceration, and seven people suffered minor cuts from the dryers.

The recall affects the BabylissPro 052 Series Professional Compact Hair Dryer, sold under the following brand names and in the following colors:

  • BabylissPro Mighty Mini in blue, pink, or white (model numbers BABMMB052T, BABMMP052T, BABMMW052T)
  • BabylissPro Nano Titanium in blue (model numbers BABNT052, BABNT052T)
  • BabylissPro Pro Porcelain Ceramic in pink, blue, or black (model numbers BABP052BK, BABP052CB, BABP052PK)
  • BabylissPro TT Tourmaline in grey or red (model numbers BABTM052, BABTM052R, BABTM052T)
  • BabylissPro TT Tourmaline Titanium in red (model numbers BABTT052, BABTT052T)

A spinning fan inside dryer can break and cause the plastic shell of the dryer to shatter, which may also produce sparks or smoke. The dryers were sold in professional salons and online from January 2006 through April 2010 for between $20 and $30.

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled Conair hair dryers immediately and contact the company at 800-687-6916 to receive a free replacement dryer.
