Goodman AC/Heat Unit Recall

On December 8, 2009, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Goodman Company, LP reannounced the voluntary recall of approximately 30,000 packaged terminal air conditioner/heat pump (PTACs) units, including the Amana, Comfort-Aire, and Century brands of PTAC units. The recall was originally announced in August 2008. The recalled products pose a burn or fire hazard, as the power cord on the unit can overheat.

The recalled units include the 5.0 kW Amana-brand, Comfort-Aire-brand, and Century-brand Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner units with serial numbers 0702112056 through 0804237539 and the following model numbers printed under the front cover:

  • Amana: PTxxx3x50xx
  • Comfort-Aire and Century: EKTxxx-150x

The company has received 11 reports of smoke or fire caused by the defective power cords. The defective units were sold through Goodman heating and cooling equipment dealers nationwide from February 2007 through June 2008.

Consumers are urged to stop using the units immediately and call 800-366-0339 for Amana-brand units or 877-442-4482 for Comfort-Aire and Century-brand units to receive a free replacement power cord.
