Consumer Protection Product Recall – Whirpool Microwaves

Working with the Consumer Protection Safety Commission, Whirlpool has announced the recall of more than 15,000 microwaves that can catch fire.

While no injuries have been reported as of yet, the company is urging consumers to unplug and stop using specific microwave hood combinations sold in stainless steel, white, and black. Once contacted, Whirlpool will send a replacement.

The company has received reports of plastic inside the microwave catching on fire, causing a safety concern for the consumer.

“Internal arcing during use can ignite an internal plastic component, posing a fire hazard,” according to Benton Harbor-based Whirlpool.

The microwaves were sold from January 2014 to April 2016 at Best Buy, HH Gregg, Lowes, and Sears and other locations according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The consumer can visit http://repair.whirlpoolcorp.com to find out specifically which model is on the recall list and learn more information. They can also call Whirlpool Corporation. at 800-990-6254 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.
